Party Games….Not Just Pin The Tail On The Donkey Anymore!Do you remember when you were little and birthday parties consisted of dressing up in your fanciest clothes, sitting in a circle while the birthday child opened their present’s one by one, eating cake, and if you’re lucky, a scoop of ice cream followed by a fun birthday party favorite game of Pin the Tail on the Donkey? Well, gone are the days of simple birthday parties completed, start to finish, in less than 2 hours. Birthday celebrations for children nowadays are getting more and more trendy and expensive. Decorations are more elaborate. Invitations are custom made and some children’s birthday cakes but any rival wedding cake to shame. While parties and celebrations become more and more out of control, one thing remains fun and simple…kid’s birthday party games. You can have the most elaborate and exquisite of birthday parties planned at a plethora of venues, but nothing will entertain a child more than the old favorite kid’s birthday party games like the spoon and cotton ball relay where 2 teams race against each other with a large spoon and a bunch of cotton trying to be the first team to fill up the bowl with the most cotton balls! This game has been around for decades and still proves to be a fun time today. You can also play the fun game of “Conversation” where all of the party guests sit in a big circle. The birthday child starts the conversation off by whispering something into the person’s ear sitting next to them. Say, for example that they said, “The sky is blue.” They can not repeat themselves, so even if you did not hear that person correctly, you have to whisper what you think you heard into the next person’s ear and so on until you have gone around the whole circle where the last person whispers what they believe to be the original message. More likely than not it is not even close to what the first person originally said! The birthday star may have said, “The sky is blue”, but the final person may have heard, “My pants say Cock-a-doodle-doo!” No matter how fancy your party may be, the oldies, but goodies party games from when we were young are still entertaining to youngsters today.
